WebComparison with the organization of these pathways in other primates suggests that a segregation of the retino-cortical pathways of opposite ocularities into alternating ocular dominance columns in striate cortex has developed independently in the … WebApr 15, 1997 · Correlation of structural variations along the retino-geniculo-cortical pathway. Although marked interindividual differences in the sizes of the components of the visual system have been reported previously, no one has explored whether this variation is coordinated within a single brain.

Wistar rats of either sex, at ages 20 days (P20), 30 days (P30) and adult (>60 days) were used in this study.
The tectopulvinar pathway and the geniculostriate pathway are the two visual pathways that travel from the retina to the early visual cortical areas. From the optic tract, the tectopulvinar pathway sends neuronal radiations to the superior colliculus in the tectum, then to the lateral posterior-pulvinar thalamic complex. Approximately 10% of retinal ganglion cells (mostly magnocellular) project onto the tectopulvinar pathway. WebIt is found that one group of colour opponent cells, the blue‐on cells, was largely segregated to the interlaminar zone, which calls into question the traditional notion that all colour information passes through the parvocellular division of the retino‐geniculo‐cortical pathway in primates.
