Birds were seen copulating on the coast, vocalizing, and displaying, but no nests were found. Given the many thousands present on shore, it was a paradox that no colonies had been discovered. The grey-headed gull (Chroicocephalus cirrocephalus), also known as the gray-hooded gull, is a small species of gull which breeds patchily in South America and Africa south of the Sahara.
